Relax, YouTube Cat Videos Now Available on Most Roku Devices

When it came to apps available on Roku, the omission of YouTube seemed the most glaring. But finally, the company has rolled out an official YouTube channel for most of its streaming devices – the ones released after July 2011 anyway. Viewers in the U.S., Canada, U.K. and the Republic of Ireland no longer have to rely on MyVideoBuzz or Twonky to access the biggest video site in the world on their Rokus, they can now visit the Channel Store (or the Roku site) and just add it to their favorite channels. The YouTube channel has been available to owners of the Roku 3 since December 2013, but consumers in possession of the other current generation players can join the in-crowd at last. Those devices include the Roku LT, Roku 1, Roku 2, Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, Roku 2XS, the new Roku Streaming Stick (both HDMI and Roku Ready versions), and the Roku HD model #2500.

Roku confirms that the new YouTube app supports HD playback, playlists and also comes with the ability to search. Viewers with a smartphone or tablet on the same WiFi connection can also find the videos they want to watch on those devices and cast them directly to the Roku.
