YouTube Non-Profits Get Cool New Features

Those lucky dogs, first no taxes, now new features at YouTube what’s next? Free candy and beer on Sundays? Those Non-Profs get all the good stuff and we never get nuthin’. Well alright, that’s not true, but they did just get some sweet new features from YouTube.

Check out this list of new things they can do that we can’t (because non-profit is different than ‘not profitable’ we’re told):

  • Link to their site – external to YouTube
  • Select custom thumbnails for videos (because they won’t abuse it but we might)

How to get into that program?

In the US:

– Organizations must be U.S.-based nonprofits with IRS 501(c)(3) tax status

– May not be religious or political in nature -(hmmm….  that eliminates quite a few)

–  May not be focused primarily on lobbying for political or policy change

– Commercial organizations, credit-counseling services, donation middleman services, fee-based organizations, universities, and nonprofit portals are not eligible for the program

In the UK:

– Organisations must be based in the United Kingdom and registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales, the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator or by the Inland Revenue

– May not be religious or political in nature

–  May not be focused primarily on lobbying for political or policy change

–  Commercial organisations, credit-counselling services, donation middleman services, fee-based organisations, universities, and non-profit portals are not eligible for the programme
