All accounts with over 1,000 subscribers and in good standing now have access to YouTube Live Stream.  And probably like anything else YouTube does, it won’t be available right away for some of you, but you can bet it’s rolling out to many as we speak.  One of the great white whales of YouTube, YouTube Live Stream is sure to be a great addition to many channels as a way to interact with fans, providing immediacy and unique presentations to the fray.  Up until now, it was by invitation only.  But recent increased Live Stream access for some has hinted at its impending widespread use.

YouTube Live Stream: What You Need to Look For

Go to your Channel Settings, go to Features, and somewhere at the bottom of the list you should see this:

If you have 1,000 subs, an account in good standing, and have set up SMS verification, YouTube Live Streaming could be yours “in a few weeks,” as the YouTube Creator Blog says.

Some features of YouTube Live (from the aforementioned YC Blog):

  • You get real-time transcoding in the cloud, so you only need to send YouTube your highest quality stream and they make it instantly available in all resolutions and device formats.
  • You can show multiple camera angles, add closed captions, and insert ads and slates.
  • Viewers can watch the live stream from any device, get the best quality constantly adjusting to their Internet connection, and can skip back and forth in the live stream

For more information, here’s the YouTube help page on the subject.  Also, the YouTube Live Streaming API is a good source of info.
