YouTube Adds HD Video Browsing Option

youtube-hdAs we posted previously, Youtube recently updated the UI to add high-definition HD video viewing in a large HD video player.  In addition, they have now added a new option to browse HD videos right from the main “Videos” navigation page.  I imagine that there have been a ton of searches for high-definition videos since the announcement.

What does this mean for online video marketers?

Well no doubt you want to take advantage of this new functionality as it now has it’s own browsing page.   The next step is for them to add this as a filter from within the advanced search, and I expect that they will.

Make sure that if you shoot in HD, upload a file that is compressed properly.  If you use a program to convert your videos and upload them to Youtube (like the one that comes with the Flip camera) make sure that you update it and check to see if the software developer has updated the conversion and upload to Youtube portion.

Here are the instructions again for uploading to youtube in high-definition:

For the highest quality, YouTube now recommends the following setting for your video:

  • MPEG4 (DivX, Xvid, H.264) format
  • 1280×720 resolution
  • 128k Mono or 320k Stereo MP3/AAC audio
  • 24,25 or 30 frames per second
  • Up to 1GB file size and 10 min. duration

YouTube accepts a wide range of video file formats such as .WMV, .AVI and .MOV but you may get the best results from converting your file to MPEG4 video with MP3 audio.
