Brands Kick Off World Cup 2018 With a Sponsored Video Push

The 2018 FIFA World Cup is one of the most anticipated tentpole sporting events of the year, and a rich opportunity for publishers to create all kinds of related content around the tournament. As the biggest soccer play-off in the world, a quarter of the one billion viewers who tuned into watch the 2014 final did so online. So it’s no wonder that in the last 90 days, a staggering 882M views of FIFA World Cup 2018 content have been generated on Facebook, with an additional 699M views generated on YouTube.

Over the past 90 days, the top 20 most viewed sponsored videos around the World Cup have generated 33.6M views as brands work with creative storytelling partners who are experts in content creation and audience activation.

Five out of the top most watched sponsored videos in this week’s chart revolve around soccer or the World Cup. Gatorade appear twice with different partners as part of a major global advertising campaign launched in May. The sports drink brand signed up soccer legends Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, and Gabriel Jesus as part of their launch of ‘Everything Changes’, the largest international campaign ever undertaken by the brand. The cross-media campaign will run across print, social media, TV, and of course, online video is playing a huge part of that. #HeartofaLio focuses on Messi and his dream of a World Cup win for Argentina, and the partnerships with the soccer star, and his team FC Barcelona generated a combined 8.7M views for Gatorade.

Between the 2nd and 9th of June 2018, 3,972 brands sponsored 7,341 videos that were directly uploaded to brand partners channels and pages on YouTube and Facebook.. These are the top 10 ranked by views generated in the first 3 days (V3).
