LEGO Gets into Online Video Contests

LEGO Gets into Online Video Contests

This story actually came into my Gamers Daily News email account but I thought you might find it interesting. LEGO, and their partners are teaming up to start an online video machinima contest. The Ones and Zeros Pixelshow, a non-profit group committed to promoting the digital arts, is hosting a worldwide contest, ”Build-a-Brickbuster,” to find and highlight the best LEGO video animators and LEGO Universe machinima creators from around the world. Original LEGO creations – with virtual bricks in the LEGO Universe online game or with footage of actual LEGO bricks and minifigures – can be used to create a winning masterpiece.

Creators can submit original videos until the deadline of August 5, 2011, for a chance to win exclusive prizes sponsored by the LEGO Group, like collectible LEGO sets, premium LEGO Universe memberships and more. Winning submissions will also be screened at the Build-a-Brickbuster Pixelfest in Broomfield, Colorado on August 13-14, 2011, and will be included on the Bill Plympton Presents Tinsel Toys DVD later this year.

Start making your LEGO machinima masterpiece now and submit before the early August deadline! There are three easy ways to enter – upload videos to, email links to [email protected], or mail submissions to the contest organizers.

Just Another Brick in the Wall

And that wall is the dominance of online video. Big names are not only using branded content online but are getting into all manner of creative goings on like this. I also know of a couple online video contest platforms that are getting going like LaunchPad6 who give you a pre-made platform with a brandable micro-site, much like the one that GDN is running right now with our BitFenix Rising contest.

While I haven’t participated in any online video contests, aside from making my own silly one for that BitFenix contest to demonstrate, I love the idea of them and I hope one day to team up with my new housemate and begin dominating some online video contests and producing our own content. As luck would have it, she is a video editor. How fortuitous!

Anyway, I thought some of you aspiring online video makers might like to toss your hat into this one and give it a go. If you haven’t got LEGOs handy, I could rent you my collection that spans some 30 years, or you can just head over to LEGO Universe, their online virtual world.

More information, complete contest rules and tickets to the Pixelfest event are available now on the Build-a-Brickbuster website at
