A couple of years ago, I felt that there was a strong need to launch an event that focused exclusively on studying and celebrating the power of online video as a marketing medium. ReelSummit (AKA “The Reel Video Marketing Summit”) was born and over the past two years the industry’s most talented and experienced practitioners in the online video space converged in San Francisco to meet, network, and share their deep knowledge and expertise. Looking back, I am proud of our success and truly believe that we accomplished our stated goal:

Where Marketers, Brands, Retailers, and Storytellers Gather – To Get Serious about the Business of Video” –  ReelSummit is a two-day conference for marketers and content creators who are serious about the evolution of digital video marketing...”

Each and every one of our speakers, panelists, Gurus, and workshop trainers were specifically chosen for their first-hand experience working directly within online video content creation, technology, marketing or advertising for a large business or brand. Here’s just a few of our amazing speakers from the 350+ participants in last year’s event:

2014-summit-speakers-hJonathan Perelman @ Buzzfeed, Jon Klaff @ Google/YouTube, Jeroen Wijering @ JWPlayer, Jim Louderback @ Discovery Digital Networks, Rob Davis @ OgilvyOne, Michael Weissman @ Vimeo, John Holdridge @ Fullscreen, Jonathan Hunt @ VICE, Christine Ngo @ Mountain-Dew/Pepsico.

Despite the amazing success and the overwhelming response we’ve received, we have made the tough decision to place ReelSummit on hiatus for the time being. As you may already be aware, ReelSEO was excited to announce that it was acquired by TubularLabs last month. On the heels of that marriage, our primary focus in the coming months will be to relaunch ReelSEO’s main website. Our goal will be to offer a much improved user-experience, even more valuable content, and new features aimed at addressing the core needs of anyone whose desire is to “Win” with online video. As such, we will NOT be holding a ReelSummit this summer.

When we made the decision to put ReelSummit on hiatus, I wanted to make sure that I could suggest a good alternate event for those serious about the online video industry.  After speaking with our close friend and industry guru, Jim Louderback (former Head of Revision3 and Discovery Digital Networks), I believe that I have some great news to share with you all!

1) 2015 VidCon’s Industry Track = Reel Serious:

jim_louderbackFirst off, Jim Louderback (who was deeply involved in helping and supporting us at ReelSummit) has been brought on board as the Editorial Director of the Industry track at VidCon 2015. Jim and I talked about Vidcon this year, and his plans to create a much deeper program – full of expert advice for both digital and traditional media companies, along with MCNs, advertisers, agencies, brands, and others in the online video space. Click here to read Jim’s note to VidCon attendees about changes to the 2015 program.

This year, they expect more than 2,000 video professionals from over 600 companies to take part in the Industry Track – and 3,000 more for the brand new “Creator Track” as well. It’s my strong opinion that past attendees of ReelSummit will benefit enormously from attending VidCon this year. For those of you that are unfamiliar with VidCon, they’ve put together a promo video for 2015.

2) ReelSEO Will Be There!

Secondly, VidCon has invited myself and our Superstar contributor Greg Jarboe, to speak during Friday’s “Hands-On Seminars and Training Sessions” (2:00pm-5:00pm). Greg Jarboe will give a talk to educate attendees on strategies for converting viewers into paying customers. For me, I plan to provide a 15-20 min. presentation, tentatively titled:

How do you drive more views to videos on your own website?
Includes strategies on best ways to include YouTube videos on your own site to drive viewership, sharing and subscriber growth.” [/alert ]Long story short – if you go to VidCon, you’ll still have the pleasure of seeing our lovely faces :-)
