Variety are reporting that online music giant Vevo will block YouTube’s new offline viewing feature for mobiles, due for release in November. Following the announcement, YouTube Partners were told that they were being given the opportunity to opt out and it looks like Vevo may be one of the first big ones to publicly do so. When the feature is rolled out, users will be able to download content and watch it offline for up to 48 hours, something that took many by surprise given the strictness of the T&Cs.

A representative from Vevo, told Variety that:

We’re not going to allow viewing of our music videos or other programming in offline mode.

Vevo, with its 15,000 YouTube channels, generates more than 3 billion views per month just announced that it achieved 44.4 Billion views in the last 12 months for artists such as Robin Thicke, Rhianna and Miley Cyrus. Vevo’s decision could potentially open the door to others to take advantage of the demand for online music to be made available offline, even if only for a limited amount of time.

YouTube are yet to respond publicly but it will be interesting to see how many other Partners follow Vevo’s lead.
