I keep telling you, whether or not you believe me, that Netflix is doing a lot of things right lately. Namely: continuing to sign new licensing deals that bring great shows and movies to the streaming service. The latest addition comes courtesy of a new deal with Time Warner, and will see eight different shows from The CW network on Netflix for as many as eight years.

The CW On Netflix – Details

The CW is not the largest network on television. But they do have a great many popular shows such as “Gossip Girl” and “The Vampire Diaries,” both of which are included in the new deal. Here’s the full list of shows included in the deal, according to EW:

  • Ringer
  • Hart of Dixie
  • The Secret Circle
  • The Vampire Diaries
  • Gossip Girl
  • 90210
  • Supernatural
  • Nikita
  • One Tree Hill

This is a very smart move for both companies. The CW’s audience tends to skew young, like 18-34. As with most technology, streaming services like Netflix and Hulu Plus are pretty popular with that demographic.

It’s also good for Netflix, which shores up a good handful of hit shows for many years in one deal.

Netflix Keeps Content Deals Coming

Let’s recap their recent content deals in just the last couple months:

  • Dreamworks Animation – Starting in a year, the studio’s animated films will be on Netflix.
  • Discovery – A pretty important deal with Discovery will bring shows from several cable networks to Netflix.
  • AMC Shows – In three separate deals, Netflix landed Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and The Walking Dead.
  • The CW – 8 shows for several years, many of which have a pretty decent following.

Earlier in the year they boosted their offering of Miramax content with a new deal, signed up Open Road Films, and they outbid all of Hollywood for the rights to produce House of Cards as their own original scripted series.

As a Netflix customer, I’m obviously happy to see the deals keep coming in. The more great content they add, the longer I’ll stick around, and the less I’ll care about any memories of a price hike.
