Amazon wants to set your TV on FIRE! Oh, wait, they announced the Fire TV, that must be why they have been doing all that Kindle-ing. They have priced their OTT device at $99 but it comes chock full of tech and has the content to back it up. So the question is, will it generate a response with its intended audience, and will the competitors, pardon the pun, fire back?

Google Plus Hangouts to Upgrade to HD

Google Plus' Hangouts on Air is getting an HD upgrade. Some of you will be able to take advantage of it now, and the rest of us will have to wait as it rolls out in the next few weeks. Anyway, bandwidth improvements, video codecs, and more had to be improved to make this happen.

Google's New VP9 Codec: Better Video at Half the Bandwidth?

Google wants their new VP9 codec to be royalty-free, but patent disputes could prevent that from happening. Meanwhile, VP9 is supposed to have double the image quality using half the compression of H.264. In other news: H.264 could be H.265 soon, so there's that.

Google's annual developer conference, the I/O, introduced a number of new features including a new video codec aimed at reducing bandwidth, a new cross platform 'all in one' video chat service and a music streaming rival to Spotify. Oh, and they also confirmed the latest YouTube stats.
