For this week’s Creator’s Tip episode, we talked with Megan O’Neill, video enthusiast and writer for SocialTimes, about why it’s important to keep up with all that happening in the fast moving world of online video as well as what sources she uses to stay informed and up-to-date with all the latest trends and updates at YouTube.
ReelSEO: How do you keep up with online video news, trends, updates, etc….?
Megan: Some of the best sources for finding out about changes at YouTube come from YouTube itself:
ReelSEO: Why is it important that we keep up with that stuff in the first place? What are some of the ideas and why we should we be paying attention to it?
Megan: YouTube’s algorithm is changing all the time and they’re adding new features. If you don’t keep with it, then you might start losing views and not understand why. There also may be some new feature that comes out that would help you get more views or help your videos become more discoverable.
QUESTION: What sources (other than ReelSEO.com) do you suggest for keeping up with online video and in particular, YouTube changes and updates?
Here’s some additional sources we would recommend:
For this week’s Creator’s Tip we’re going to talk with Megan O’Neill about how and why it’s important to keep up with what’s happening in the online video
world. That’s coming up!
Hey guys! My name is Tim Schmoyer and welcome to another Creator’s Tip video, where every week we just help you guys who are making online video content
know how to make that stuff just stand out the best on the web. And today we have a special guest with us. We’re very privileged to have Miss Megan O’Neill
with us. She writes at the SocialTimes. I read pretty much everything she writes because it’s all really good. And if you watch the Reel Web videos, you’ve
seen me talk about a lot of the stuff and link to some of the articles that she writes.
She definitely knows what she’s talking about and Megan, I’d love to hear from you, how do you keep up with what’s going on? I mean you’re like the source
that a lot of us go to for this kind of information and news. How do you keep up with it in the first place?
Well, sometimes I keep up with it from ReelSEO also.
It’s a great resource.
I did not pay her to do that.
Also, I think that the best sources for finding out stuff about YouTube are the YouTube Creator Blog and just the general YouTube Blog. And what’s the
other one? There’s like a more technical—
Yeah, they have the Bulletin now as well and sometimes on the API Blog. Random things come out from the YouTube API Blog.
And aside from that, like there’s a few other resources that sometimes put a little bit more analysis into it, so you can understand why it’s important.
Like Peter Kafka from AllThingsD; I like his articles. It’s sort of like more helpful for finding out why you should be doing the things that YouTube is
telling you, you should be doing.
Cool. So why is it important that we keep up with that stuff in the first place? What are some of the ideas that this is why you do it and this is why we
should be reading and watching and paying attention?
Well, of course YouTube’s algorithm is changing all the time and they’re adding new features. And if you don’t keep with it, then you might start losing
views and not understand why. Or maybe some new feature comes out that would help you get more views or help your videos become more discoverable.
If you guys have any other recommended resources—and there aren’t any besides those SocialTimes revealed to you—but we’d love to hear how you guys keep up
with what’s happening in the online video world, outside of us, and just kind of especially tell us how that helps you, how that benefits you. And I think
that could help both of us here at ReelSEO and SocialTimes and other places really know how to really help you guys the best. So comment and let us know.
If it’s your first time hanging out, make sure you subscribe—we’d love to have you join us every week for these videos and more. And we’ll see you guys
some other time. Thanks for hanging out. Bye.
