YouTube gets an awful lot of press around here, and generally that’s for good reason–they’re huge. But Vimeo is also huge (just maybe not as big when placed side-by-side with YouTube). And Vimeo has a uniquely artistic community that is passionate, supportive, critical, and engaged. In advance of the second Vimeo Festival+ Awards, which celebrate “the most creative and original videos online and the individuals that make them,” Vimeo has put out the call for submissions.

The Vimeo Festival+ Awards are more than just an honor. They also come with Grants of $5000 to all the category winners and $25,000 for the Grand Prize winner.

“Since our inaugural event, we have watched online video explode into a primary medium for new talent discovery,” said Jeremy Boxer, Director of the Vimeo Festival + Awards. “More and more creators earn visibility, credibility and, ultimately, work by showcasing their videos online. We created the Vimeo Festival + Awards to celebrate the best of the best of these videos.”

Filmmakers are not only allowed to submit their own works, they’re encouraged to do so.
