Adobe MAX 2011 is going on, and while I’m not there, I’ve been keeping up with what’s going on. One of the interesting things for us, the online video community, is Adobe AIR 3 and Flash Player 11. They announced that both are available as of 9pm last night. They also announced that LG and TiVO are embracing these apps for new connected devices. But that is all just the tip of the iceberg in regards to how Adobe is riding the tide and continuing to keep itself relevant.

Adobe AIR Integration

At Adobe MAX, LG and TiVO joined others like Samsung, the first TV manufacturer to announce integration into their Smart TVs, in integrating Adobe Flash and AIR into their connected home devices. SnagFilms, Flingo and EPIX already have apps that are using AIR to reach the living room.

“TVs and other connected devices in the digital living room are the next frontier for rich entertainment apps,” said Danny Winokur, vice president and general manager, Platform, Adobe. “Flash-based applications are transforming content consumption on TVs as developers embrace new opportunities to deliver beautiful HD content to increasingly powerful digital home devices connected to a big screen.”

While they talked a lot about games, they also mentioned that content publishers are able to deliver HD videos with Dolby and DTS 7.1 channel surround sound for full support of home theater systems.

AIR is also able to reach those finicky iOS platforms meaning it could be a stepping stone between today and a fully HTML5-powered future. Adobe is doing well to position themselves right in the middle of the future. They have always been about helping us create content and deliver it and they prove this even today be creating apps that work across the majority of platforms including Android, iOS, Blackberry Tablet, Mac and Windows as well as an ever-growing list of connected home devices like TVs, Blu-Ray players, etc.

Adobe Touch Apps

As part of the Adobe MAX they have also announced new Adobe Touch Apps, a suite of six creativity apps (Photoshop Touch, Collage, Debut, Ideas, Kuler and Proto)  made for tablets and iPads, the acquisition of Typekit (who makes fonts for website usage), acquisition of PhoneGap (open source platform for cross-platform mobile app creation in HTML5 and Javascript) and Creative Cloud which looks to be a SaaS solution for all of their creative applications including Dreamweaver, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop as well as InDesign, Illustrator, and Adobe Edge and Muse.

That PhoneGap acquisition shows promise. If they can pick and choose some of the code from there and implement it into AIR and other Adobe apps it could mean that you can continue to work in your favorite Adobe app and export to HTML5/CSS/JS sort of like Edge allows. So like I said, Adobe is continuing their roadmap of creating applications that allow us to create content and deliver it, even if the world seems likely to move away from the traditional idea of what Flash is used for, Adobe will still be a presence in online creativity.

Adobe Edge Public Preview 3 Launches, adds Interactivity: In response to strong community interest, the third preview of Adobe Edge is now available, adding interactivity features and enabling a new level of visual richness with Web standards. Adobe Edge is the new HTML5 motion and interaction design tool that is bringing Flash-like animation to websites and mobile apps using the latest capabilities of HTML, JavaScript and CSS and was first made available in August. Fireworks CS5.5 Gains CSS3 Mobile Capabilities: Building on support for Web standards in tools like Dreamweaver and Flash Professional, Adobe today released a new CSS3 Mobile Pack for Fireworks, which will enable designers to easily extract CSS3 from their design elements in Fireworks and quickly add them to their HTML based websites and mobile applications,

Adobe Continues Web Standards Contributions around WebKit, JQuery and CSS:

Adobe continues to work closely with the HTML5 community to make important contributions including:

·         jQuery Mobile 1.0, a popular touch-optimized open source JavaScript framework to which Adobe is a leading contributor, was made available as a Release Candidate (RC1) this week,

·         Adobe on Monday introduced a new proposal to the W3C, co-edited with other W3C members, called CSS Shaders that brings cinematic visual effects to HTML,

·         Adobe has co-authored with Microsoft and submitted to the W3C a proposal for CSS Regions, which enables sophisticated magazine-like layouts using Web standards. A preliminary implementation of CSS Regions is available in Chromium and the WebKit browser via the WebKit layout engine and in the latest preview release of Microsoft Internet Explorer 10,
